Don’t text and drive
In response to (“Don’t text and drive,” May 9). Texting and driving, a concept warned against commonly yet many fail to obey. Recently, it’s come to my attention as to what drivers are doing behind the wheel. I look car to car along the busy streets of Spokane and count how many people are on their phones. I always run out of fingers to count on. You may ask why texting isn’t bad and driving isn’t bad, how could they possibly be so harmful together?
The truth is no matter how much we convince ourselves that we can do everything simultaneously, our brains can only focus on one thing at a time. When you’re driving, you should be focused on the road. I lose respect for those so obsessed with their phones that they have to be on them constantly. How important can that text really be?
It becomes very important when you hit a young girl crossing the street while getting off the bus, or a guy on a motorcycle going to visit his wife in the hospital. The point is, it’s fine until it isn’t. I plead you to ask how important that text is before you send it while driving.
