Man accused of sex crimes arrested after north Spokane standoff
The Spokane police SWAT team late Thursday arrested a man accused of multiple sex crimes.
Officers were called to the 6800 block of North Division Street about 8 p.m. after learning Daniel Wells Jr., 38, was at the location, armed and potentially suicidal, police said in a news release.
When they arrived, officers saw Wells outside a camper trailer with a gun in his hand, but he moved out of sight, the news release said. Police communicated with him and he surrendered peacefully about a half-hour later.
Wells is expected to face several charges, including second-degree child rape and third-degree child rape, police said. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
Division Street was briefly closed during the incident.
