East Valley’s Rodrick Fisher commits to play football at Washington State
For a long time – too long – Rodrick Jackson did not have a home.
Now Rodrick Fisher always will. Jackson changed his named to Fisher to honor the first family that took him in, that of East Valley football coach Adam Fisher.
Now he’s found another family, the Washington State Cougars. The East Valley senior committed to WSU on Wednesday, adding a happy chapter to a life that has seen plenty of ups and downs.
Adam Fisher and his wife Jolene adopted Rodrick, who had bounced from family to family – that is, when he wasn’t homeless.
Given a chance to succeed, Rodrick showed sprinter’s speed and exceptional football ability, leading to scholarship offers from Boise State, Utah and the Cougars.
The 6-foot-2 speedster found a home in Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense, where he will play wide receiver.
