Finalists announced for Spokane Youth Sports Awards

Finalists in 10 categories have been announced by the Spokane Sports Commission, in partnership with SWX and The Fitz Basketball Tournament, for the 2017 Spokane Youth Sports Awards.

Winners will be named during ceremonies on June 5 at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox. Red-carpet arrivals will begin at 5 p.m. with the awards ceremony starting at 6. The public is invited. General admission tickets are available for $15 and can be purchased online at www.spokanesports.org.

Finalists by category:

Coach of the Year –Phil McLean, wrestling, Mead High School; Heidi Melville, boys soccer, Saint George’s School; Alex Schuerman, baseball, Mt. Spokane High School.

1B/2B/1A Top Female High School Sports Team – Davenport basketball, Lakeside volleyball, Oakesdale volleyball.

1B/2B/1A Top Male High School Sports Team – Deer Park cross country, Liberty football, Saint George’s soccer.

2A/3A/4A Top Female High School Sports Team – Central Valley track, Mead volleyball, Mt. Spokane volleyball.

2A/3A/4A Top Male High School Sports Team –Gonzaga Prep basketball, Mead wrestling, Mt. Spokane baseball.

Non-High School Sports Top Female Athlete – Lizzy Bowers, BMX, Spokane BMX; Courtney Kirschke, figure skating, Lilac City Figure Skating Club; Akina Yamada, judo, Pacific Judo Academy.

Non-High School Sports Top Male Athlete – Tucker Knudsen, BMX, Spokane BMX; Daniel Roy, swimming, King Aquatic Club; Kailer Yamamoto, hockey, Spokane Chiefs.

High School Sports Top Female Athlete – Jaya Allen, fastpitch softball/slowpitch softball, Shadle Park; Zella Conley, gymnastics/track and field, Mead; Lexie Hull, basketball, Central Valley; Madison Ward, cross country/track and field, Saint George’s.

High School Sports Top Male Athlete – Tyler Haas, football/basketball/baseball, Liberty; Clai Quintanilla, wrestling, North Central; Dalton Young, wrestling, Lakeside.

Against All Odds Honorees – Rodrick Fisher, football/track and field, East Valley; Micah Henry, cross country/basketball/track and field/soccer, Northwest Christian; Rogers coed cheer squad.
