GLENDALE, Ariz. – This is going to be a tricky one for Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth.

Roth hasn’t sat down at a GU game he’s attended since the 2000 season. He tries to settle his nerves by standing in a tunnel near the team’s bench, but that won’t work inside spacious University of Phoenix Stadium. The tunnels are at least 50 yards from the portable court.

Roth did a preliminary scout and found a railing fairly close to the court and Gonzaga’s bench that “doesn’t block anybody’s view.” A television crew was going to follow Roth around later as he finalized his vantage point.

“I’m not sure you can see the court from the tunnels,” Roth said. “The sightlines in a giant building like this aren’t great, whether it’s for people like me who stand or for folks in the stands, but it’s going to be a great atmosphere.”
