Annual hot dog and T-shirt sale fundraiser Saturday will benefit Newman Lake Fire and Rescue

From local reports

The Newman Lake Fire Auxiliary is gearing up for its largest fundraiser of the year. The annual Hot Dog and T-shirt Sale will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Newman Lake Fire Station 1, 9324 N. Starr Road. All proceeds will benefit the Newman Lake Fire and Rescue staff and volunteers.

The T-shirt design is a well-kept secret by a small number of Auxiliary and community members until the day of the event, said Deb Davis, an Auxiliary officer.

“People line up to get their shirt,” she said.

Attendees can also enter a raffle to win a kayak, donated by State Line Walmart. Each raffle ticket is $5 or five tickets for $20, and a drawing will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. July 23 at an ice cream social at Newman Lake Resort and Marina.

A Blood Mobile will be available 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To make an appointment to give blood, call Linda Rivers at (509) 991-7106.

The Auxiliary was formed in 1950 as a way to support members of Newman Lake’s volunteer firefighters. Today the department is staffed by Fire Chief Keith Yamane, two part-time deputy chiefs and 20 volunteers.
