Mariners Pregame: Andrew Moore makes MLB debut, lineups and starters

Game 75: The Seattle Mariners (37-37) host the Detroit Tigers (32-39) in the last of a four-game series at 7:10 pm at Safeco Field.

The M’s scored seven runs combined in the sixth and seventh innings to come back to beat the Tigers 7-5 to claim their third straight win over their visitors. Jarrod Dyson broke up Justin Verlander’s perfect game with a bunt single in the sixth, which some folks consider against the unwritten rules of baseball, but Verlander didn’t have a problem with it, saying it was “part of the game.”

The Mariners, back up to second in the A.L. West, have won four in a row and are 23-13 at home, while the Tigers, fourth in the A.L. Central, have lost five in a row and are 14-23 on the road.

Andrew Moore is the 11th Mariners pitcher to make his MLB debut in a start since 2005. When he throws his first pitch today, Moore will be the 30th different pitcher used by Seattle in 2017 – the most in the Majors this season – and the 13th different starting pitcher (1st in MLB).

Moore will be the 11th rookie pitcher Seattle has employed (first in MLB) and the fifth rookie to make a start (tied with Cincinnati for most in the Majors). He joins Chase De Jong, Sam Gaviglio, Dillon Overton and Rob Whalen among the rookies who have started for Seattle this year.

Moore was rated the Mariners No. 2 pitching prospect and No. 4 overall before the season by MLB.com.

  • OF Ben Gamel is on a 13-game hitting streak and has hit in 23 of his last 24 games, posting two hitting streaks of 10-plus games. Gamel is an 0 for 3 (with a sac fly) on June 8 away from 24-game streak.
