‘Z Nation’ zombie team launches new mission to save kittens

Turns out zombies have a soft spot for kittens.

The crew of season four of the Syfy TV series “Z Nation” has started a GoFundMe campaign to rescue four kittens and their mama cat – as well as maybe a few more neighborhood strays.

“We’ve got a new team member with feral cat rescue experience, our own live trap, and the determination of a whole (horde) of zombies!” according to the effort at www.gofundme.com/z-kitten-rescue.

The show is filming in and around Spokane this summer. Browne’s Addition is featured as a “Zona,” a zombie-free enclave for billionaires.

This isn’t the first time the “Z Nation” crew has rescued kittens. They first discovered the mama cat – and her previous litter of four kittens – back when they were filming season two. Mama was “living in an abandoned building behind our office,” they wrote on their campaign page.

“A few of us got together and attempted to rescue and find permanent homes for them all. We succeeded in capturing three of the kittens. We raised money to have them fixed, chipped, and get a full set of vaccines, plus any other care they needed. We found homes for all of them and we are so happy all three are living safe, loving lives.”

The crew is asking for $500 to help rescue the mama cat and her kittens. Within 13 hours, they raised $100 of their goal with the help of five donors. The effort started Tuesday.

“We will do this with or without help because we just can’t bear to see these cats not get a real chance at a safe life, but it would be great if we can raise some money to help pay for all the vet bills,” they wrote on the page started by Rebecca Cook and classified under “animals.”

The “Z Nation” animal rescue is accepting donations of any size – no matter how big or small.

“Any amount you can spare to help us out would be greatly appreciated. You could even say you helped on ‘Z Nation’ because we are way less productive crew members when worrying about lost and lonely kittens (don’t tell our bosses)!”
