Empire Health Foundation of Spokane has been chosen to administer a new endowment fund supporting cancer research in Washington.

The Cancer Research Endowment Fund was started with $5 million in public funding in the state’s 2015-17 budget. The Legislature is authorized to provide up to $10 million per year in public funding over the next decade, and all public funding must be matched by private or other non-state resources.

“Empire Health Foundation is deeply committed to the CARE Fund’s goals and is eager to launch and scale this important initiative for our state,” said Antony Chiang, president of Empire Health Foundation.

The fund’s initial focus is on recruiting top cancer researchers to Washington and providing grants for research with the potential to provide breakthrough treatments.
