First he did it at the state championships, now Jakobe Ford is the first do it at the Junior Olympics.
Ford, a recent Shadle Park graduate, completed the triple crown of jumps at the USATF National Junior Olympics in Lawrence, Kansas, winning the high jump at 7 feet, one-half inch. Competing in the 17-18 age division, he became the first triple-crown winner in the jumps.
He won the long jump (24-6 1/4) on Wednesday and the triple jump (51-7 3/4) on Friday.
At the State 3A championships in May, Ford also won all three jumps.
Ford’s accomplishment will be featured in staff writer Greg Lee’s weekly Youth Sports Notebook in Wednesday’s Spokesman-Review.
