Lake City drops rival Coeur d’Alene in league opener
Lake City didn’t have a scorer in double figures, but it was still enough for the visiting Timberwolves to kick-start Inland Empire League 5A play with a 41-28 victory over crosstown rival Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.
Lauren Rewers had eight points on 4-of-5 shooting and eight rebounds for the Timberwolves (11-1, 1-0).
Nina Carlson chipped in nine points and eight boards.
Kayla Fagan scored 11 points for the Vikings (5-5, 0-2).
Post Falls 62, Lewiston 40: Melody Kempton posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the undefeated Trojans (9-0, 1-0) past the visiting Bengals (4-4, 1-1) in their league opener.
Northeast A
Freeman 29, Riverside 27: Grace Holt hit a winning 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining and the Scotties (2-8, 1-3 Northeast A) topped the Rams (2-8, 0-4) in a low-scoring affair.
Medical Lake 45, Newport 32: The Cardinals (7-2, 4-0) outscored visiting the Grizzlies (2-6, 1-3) 15-2 in the first quarter and cruised to a win.
Makayla Geiger scored 10 points to lead the Cardinals.
Chewelah 52, Deer Park 44: Jaelinn Skok scored 12 points to lead the Cougars (6-3, 2-2) past the Stags (6-3, 2-2).
Northeast 2B
Liberty 57, St. George’s 40: Christine Denny scored 23 points and the Lancers (10-0, 6-0) handed the visiting Dragons (8-2, 5-1) their first league loss.
Intermountain League
Timberlake 70, Priest River 27: Shelby Starr and Lily Kelley scored 15 points apiece and the visiting Tigers (10-2, 2-0) drubbed the Spartans (3-7, 0-1).
Nonleague
Oakesdale 57, Valley Christian 23: The Nighthawks (7-2) received a 20-point performance from Jacey Johnson and notched a victory against the visiting Panthers (5-5).
Phoebe Trigsted finished with 11 points to lead VC.
St. Maries 51, Genesis Prep 31: The Lumberjacks (6-3), led by Shelby Holder’s 12 points, handled the Jaguars.
Bella Burekatete led Genesis Prep with 15 points.
