Spokane group adds money to wolf poaching reward

After two wolves were illegally killed in northeast Washington in November and December several nonprofit conservation groups offered rewards leading to conviction.

On Wednesday, the Lands Council added to the pot, promising $5,000. At the same time the Western Wildlife Conservation group pitched in an additional $1,000 pushing the total reward to $26,000. In a news release the Lands Council noted that “neither the perpetrator or his family can benefit from the reward being offered.”

“Poaching of any animal is unacceptable, poaching of an animal protected under state endangered species law is an egregious act and should be punished to the full extent of the law,” the release stated.

One wolf was found in Stevens County and the other was found in Ferry County in November and early December. The investigation is ongoing.
