‘Weekend Update’ anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che named ‘Saturday Night Live’ co-head writers
Live from New York, Colin Jost and Michael Che just got a major promotion.
“Saturday Night Live”’s resident “Weekend Update” anchors Jost and Che were named co-head writers of the long-running sketch show, NBC announced Tuesday, making Che the first person of color to ever hold the title.
The pair will fill the gap left by Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, who exited earlier this year after Comedy Central ordered a pilot for their television show.
Che, 34, and Jost, both New York natives, round out the team of four alongside Bryan Tucker and Kent Sublette.
The two have been hosting “Weekend Update” together since 2014.
The position is familiar for Jost, 35, who previously served as head writer for Seasons 38, 39 and 40. He’s been with the show since 2005.
Che, meanwhile, came to Studio 8H in 2013, first as a guest writer and then as a regular writer. He replaced Cecily Strong on “Weekend Update.”
