Practice reports 100th outpatient joint replacement

Dr. Matthew Wallace of Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists has performed the practice’s 100th outpatient joint replacement procedure, which was a total knee replacement.

Specially trained NWOS surgeons perform outpatient joint replacement, meaning patients stay in the hospital only a few hours after the procedure, instead of days, according to a practice news release. Outpatient procedures allow the patient to heal at home, away from the risks of infection present in the hospital environment, and are cheaper because of a shortened stay.

NWOS surgeons have performed 60 total hip replacements, 38 total knee replacements and two total shoulder replacements since their first procedure in early November 2016, the release said.

Credit union’s top volunteer selects beneficiary of $600

BSA and Fraud Specialist Julian Romanov, named top Horizon Credit Union employee volunteer for the third-quarter, has chosen Safe Passage Violence Prevention Center to receive a $600 donation, under the thrift’s Go-Givers employee volunteer program.

The Go-Givers program encourages employees to volunteer in their community and allows outstanding volunteers the opportunity to donate money on behalf of Horizon to a nonprofit of their choice.

Romanov volunteers as a reserve firefighter and emergency medical responder and has completed training at Safe Passage focused on supporting individuals who have experience trauma, according to a credit union news release. Romanov earned the donated money by volunteering more hours than any other Horizon employee in the third quarter – earning $100 – and surpassing 100 volunteer hours for 2017 – earning another $500.
