Pot belly pigs and rabbits die in barn fire near Bellingham

Associated Press

EVERSON, Wash. – Authorities say two pot belly pigs and four rabbits died in a barn fire northeast of Bellingham.

The Bellingham Herald reports that fire crews responded to the blaze in Everson Thursday morning.

Whatcom County Fire District No. 1 Chief Mel Blankers says that when firefighters arrived, the structure was nearly gone.

Whatcom County Fire Marshal Will Anderson says a horse and a pig were able to escape but the other six animals died in the fire.

Anderson says the fire was accidental and likely cause by an electrical short.
