Learn to swim

Every summer there are news reports of drownings. My heart goes out to the families who suffer that loss. Many neighborhoods and communities have public pools where affordable swim lessons are available. And many don’t. To those that don’t, step it up!

To the media sources, make an emphasis on when and where swim lessons are available. Parents and grandparents, do what you need to do to make sure your kids know how to swim.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, even basic skills will keep them on top of the water. We live in a beautiful area surrounded by lakes and rivers. From a safety as well as a social standpoint, every child should know how to swim. And adults, it’s not too late to learn either.

Swim lessons should be affordable and accessible to everyone. Community leaders and citizens are responsible to make sure our tax dollars build and support the facilities to enable this.
