Transfer forward Brandon Clarke lists Gonzaga and Washington State among three finalists

Gonzaga and Washington State are in the mix for San Jose State transfer Brandon Clarke.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward tweeted on Thursday that his finalists are GU, WSU and Oregon. Clarke will sit out next season under NCAA transfer rules and then have two years of eligibility.

Clarke averaged 17.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks as a sophomore, becoming just the second Spartan in 20 years to earn first-team All-Mountain West Conference honors. He also made the MWC’s All-Defensive team. Clarke was the MWC’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2016.

Clarke shot 59 percent from the field and 57 percent at the free-throw line last season. He has attempted just nine 3-pointers in two seasons. He scored a career-high 36 points against Air Force. He had 15 rebounds and seven blocks versus UNLV.

Gonzaga’s frontcourt this season includes senior Johnathan Williams, junior Jeremy Jones, sophomores Killian Tillie and Rui Hachimura and redshirt freshman center Jacob Larsen.

The Zags have two scholarships available.

News of Clarke’s transfer surfaced earlier this week. Clarke hasn’t cited a reason for transferring. San Jose State recently hired Jean Prioleau to replace Dave Wojcik, who resigned in July for personal reasons.

Clarke, a native of Vancouver, B.C., lists Phoenix as his hometown.
