Hurricane Kenneth a category 3 storm far off Mexican coast
MEXICO CITY – Hurricane Kenneth grew rapidly into a monster Category 4 storm, but slipped slightly later Monday off Mexico’s Pacific coast. It posed no threat to land, but the remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey continued to slog across the Caribbean Sea, threatening to drench parts of Central America.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Kenneth had winds of 130 mph early Monday before slipping back to 125 mph.
The hurricane was centered about 1,400 miles west of the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. It was moving west-northwest at about 10 mph over the open sea.
Meanwhile, the remnant of Tropical Storm Harvey were moving along the northern coast of Honduras toward a collision with Belize and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It might later regain tropical storm force over the Gulf of Mexico
