Deputy who shot suicidal man Monday identified
The deputy who shot and wounded a reportedly suicidal man in Spokane Valley early Monday morning has been identified as Deputy Clay Hilton.
Deputies were called to the 3200 block of South Glenn Court just after 2 a.m. Monday after someone reported that a man was suicidal and had a gun, according to court records. The man was found sitting on the living room floor with a gun pointed at his head.
As another deputy broke out a sliding glass door at the back of the house, Hilton fired a single shot, wounding the man, according to court documents. The man’s father-in-law said Monday that the man was shot in the hand.
The man was treated for his injuries at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. He has not been charged with a crime.
The investigation into the shooting is being led by the Spokane Police Department.
