Trump’s greeting offensive
As a hard-working mother, wife, volunteer, friend, professional woman, etc., in her 50s, I would be incredibly offended if any man, let alone the U.S. president, stated upon meeting me for the first time,
“You’re in such good shape … beautiful.” And in front of his wife, no less!
This greeting by Trump to France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron was not “a sincere compliment” as Mr. Tegge stated in his Aug. 2 letter, but an ageist, vacuous and insensitive comment made by an egocentric narcissist.
Why is it men of Trump’s ilk believe we women should be happy to be defined by our physicality when we are so much more? Should we be fawning like blushing debutantes over superficial “compliments” about our bodies that men such as Trump deem to dole out? Notice we are intelligent, funny, kind, or a plethora of other positive characteristics. Trump might as well have said, “You’re looking hot for an older broad.”
The cartoon Mr. Tegge complained of expressed exactly what many of us were thinking.
