Small fire contained off Aubrey L. White Parkway

Fire crews responded to a fire in the vicinity of Aubrey L. White Parkway just west of intersection with Rifle Club Road Wednesday evening.

Upon arrival at approximately 5:50 p.m., the crews found a small fire burning some distance off the road. The fire had been reported by homeowners in the area, said D.J. Green, a fire unit forester with the Department of Natural Resources.

Crews were able to contain the fire to less than one-tenth of an acre and investigators were on-scene trying to determine its cause at approximately 6:50 p.m.

The investigators consider the fire’s origin suspicious, Green said.
