Reduce nuclear stockpiles

This week, I visited the office of our congresswoman, Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

I delivered a condolence card for the loss of her father-in-law, David H. Rodgers. I long admired Dave as one of our solid local leaders and am proud to have called him a friend. Congratulations, Dave, and thank you for your life of service. I regret the loss to his family and to our entire community.

I asked our congresswoman to consider shouldering open leadership on the issue of international nuclear weapons, a threat to all of us in every part of the world. I have asked her to think about speaking out publicly to ask world leaders to negotiate intensively on a steady destruction of the dangerous stockpiles, systematic verification and careful inventory of each and every horrific, aging weapon.

I would hope that her office would be in constant communication with many of the disarmament groups such as Mayors for Peace, Greenpeace and others. Perchance her office could regularly report to us constituents on the efforts, challenges and progress on this threat to us all?
