Inland Northwest Community Foundation has named Shelly O’Quinn as CEO. Before taking on the position, O’Quinn worked with Habitat for Humanity and Greater Spokane Incorporated, and served as a Spokane County Commissioner.

Corrections

Eight Spokane County Department of Corrections employees received awards at the Department of Corrections Annual Agency Awards in Tumwater, Washington. Anthony Harbolt, a safety officer at Airway Heights Corrections Center, received the Excellence in Safety Award. Program Specialist Shelly Hanson of Airway Heights was named Employee of the Year. Travis Green of Airway Heights was named Correctional Officer of the Year. The Innovation Team Award went to Cheryl Miller, classification counselor at Airway Heights, Corey Doty, a community corrections officer with Spokane Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) West, and Yolanda Tortorelli, a community corrections officer with the Spokane Community Justice Center. Kathryn Lamb from the Spokane Valley office was named Supervisor of the Year. Maura Jackson of Spokane’s Special Assault Unit was named Community Corrections Officer of the Year.

Education

Professor Emeritus Joseph Coyne of Washington State University received the 2016 Association of University Programs in Health Administration Distinguished Service Award for his leadership as chair of the Global Faculty Forum, bringing together academics from around the world. Coyne works in the Department of Health Policy and Administration in the College of Nursing.

Engineering

DCI Engineers has announced Dade Irwin has been promoted to Senior CAD Designer. Irwin has been with DCI since 2011. Joseph James has also been promoted to Senior CAD Designer. He has 28 years of experience and is working on the Looff Carrousel redesign and Gonzaga’s Center for Athletic Achievement.

Health

Dr. Bryon Humble was named Rockwood Health System’s Valley Hospital Physician of the Year for 2016. Dr. Humble, a Navy veteran, has been with Rockwood since 2011.

Jennifer Whitworth, a student of Spokane Community College’s surgical technology program, recently won the 11th Annual Washington State Association of Surgical Technologist Student Scrub Bowl, a competition for students across the state using questions from the national surgical tech exam. Whitworth will graduate in June.

Heleen Dewey and Torney Smith, both of the Spokane Regional Health District, have been selected for The Kresge Foundation’s Emerging Leaders in Public Health initiative. The initiative brings county and local health department professionals from across the country to share knowledge and skills to bring back to their community. Each team receives a resource grant of up to $125,000. Dewey leads the Health District’s Active Living program and Smith is an administrator.

Dr. Kevin Pidgeon has joined the physiatry practice at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute. Pidgeon completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the University of California, Irvine. He worked as a private practice physiatrist in Level II trauma centers as well as a regional center for excellence for spinal cord and traumatic brain injury. Most recently he served as a medical director for rehabilitation at Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Northridge, California.

Lisa Salazar, a Certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, has joined the physiatry practice at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute. Salazar earned her master’s degree as a certified family nurse practitioner from California State University Dominguez Hills. She is also a certified case manager and rehabilitation RN. Most recently she provided comprehensive medical evaluation and management for patients at Lindora Bariatric Weight Management Systems. Salazar will support St. Luke’s inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient physiatry practice.

Real Estate

Craig Soehren, a broker with Kiemle & Hagood Company, has received the Commercial Realtor of the Year Award by the Washington State Association of Realtors. Soehren has been with Kiemle & Hagood for 33 years and specializes in the lease and sale of investment, medical office and general office buildings, as well as tenant representation. Most recently he represented the Sisters of Holy Names in the sale of their Convent and 65-acre Spokane property. Additional notable transactions throughout Soehren’s career include the sale of the 325,000-square-foot Bank of America Financial Center, the sale of the 200,000-square-foot former Telect Building, and the 180,000-square-foot sale of the US Bank Building. Soehren serves on the Washington State University Planned Giving Advisory Board and is the 2017 President of the Washington State Commercial Association of Realtors.
