Matt Handelman has resigned as superintendent of the Coeur d’Alene School District after accepting a position with Evergreen Public Schools in Western Washington.

Handelman will continue to serve as superintendent through the end of the month, after which he will remain attached to the district as a consultant through the 2017 fiscal year, the Coeur d’Alene School Board said Friday in a statement.

“I would like to thank the Coeur d’Alene School District and the community for the opportunity to serve our students, families and staff for the past seven years, the last four as your superintendent,” Handelman wrote in a memo circulated Friday.

He cited the recent passage of the largest construction bond in the district’s history at the same time the maintenance and operations levy was renewed as among his chief accomplishments as superintendent.

Trina Caudle, the current Director of Secondary Education, will succeed Handelman during the interim period, while a search is undertaken for a permanent replacement.

“Matt will be missed and the Board is grateful for Matt’s years of leadership and tireless service to this district. We all wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” board Chairman Casey Morrisroe said in a statement.
