Libraries vital to me
I was a pretty quiet kid. I didn’t talk to many people, so for company I turned to books. I can’t count the hours I spent at the library picking out new books to read or audio-books to listen to. I still remember being at eye level with the second shelf, looking at the set of 26 books that taught about each letter of the alphabet. I didn’t go to a standard school until high school, so I can’t help but feel I owe my current enrollment at Johns Hopkins University, at least in part, to books.
Libraries have given me a lot over the years, and they’re on the ballot. Spokane Public Libraries is supported through a small property tax. The measure on the ballot merely seeks a continuation of that tax.
I think that this is a time that needs libraries desperately. In my experience, books provide empathy and knowledge. Imagine a world without those. I have a feeling you won’t have to try very hard. It’s especially important for young adults to get out and vote. We have to build the world we want. And I want one with libraries.
