Ex-Pasco Police officer murder trial in Spokane delayed again

The former Pasco police officer charged with killing a Spokane prostitute in 1986 had his trial date moved from May 8 to Oct. 2.

Richard Aguirre, 52, was charged in the summer of 2015 with killing Ruby Doss after a DNA sample Aguirre gave for an unrelated case matched a sample taken from a condom found near Doss’ body, who was found dead on Jan. 30, 1986.

Seattle defense attorney John Henry Browne appeared Tuesday before Spokane County Superior Court Judge Raymond Clary, who agreed with a request to move the trial date to Oct. 2.

In an unrelated case, a Franklin County jury in March exonerated Aguirre on third-degree rape and fourth-degree assault charges stemming from 2014. He remains free on bond pending the upcoming murder trial in Spokane County.

Aguirre family friend Tina LeDoux issued a statement on Wednesday supporting the former officer.

“We are disappointed that this case has been continued,” LeDoux wrote. “With little to no evidence, this case should have never made it this far.”

A phone call made to Spokane County Prosecutor Larry Haskell was not immediately returned.
