North Idaho teen missing after prom at Orofino High School
An Orofino, Idaho, high school student has been missing since Saturday evening when he didn’t return home after high school prom.
Identified as Kristian Perez, the 17-year-old was reported missing by his mother, who advised the Orofino Police Department that her son had left the prom at 9:32 p.m. and had not been seen or heard from since, according to an Orofino Police Department news release.
Perez was apparently driven to the prom by a relative, whose vehicle was located by police sometime after the teen went missing, the release states. Perez’s tuxedo jacket, one shoe and his broken cellphone were recovered near the vehicle.
A canine tracking team was able to follow Perez’s scent from where the prom took place at the National Guard Armory westward to a nearby parking lot along U.S. Highway 12, but the track was lost there, the release states. Police believe Perez may have entered a vehicle at that location.
Perez may have been sighted in the Lewiston area, according to the release. Lewiston is about an hour’s drive west of Orofino. It is unknown when or where in Lewiston he may have been spotted. The Lewiston Police Department is following up on that sighting, the release stated.
The Orofino Police Department has yet to find any of Perez’s family or friends who have heard from him since he left prom, the release states.
The department is asking anyone with information to call (208) 476-5551.
