Edible pot products facing same standards as food produced in Washington
OLYMPIA – Washington companies that make edible marijuana products would have to meet the same sanitary standards as other food processors under a bill the Senate sent to Gov. Jay Inslee Wednesday.
The House bill requires producers and processors of those products to have a food processing endorsement by the state Department of Agriculture and be subject to rules set up by the state Liquor and Cannabis Board and the Department of Health.
The bill moved easily through the House, where it received unanimous approval. It passed the Senate 47-2, with only Republicans Mike Padden and Shelly Short voting no.
