Vote yes on library levy

As I write this, I’m sitting in the new Level Up Co-Working Space at the Downtown Library. To my left is a view of the Spokane Club, to my right, the raging waters of Spokane Falls. There are over a dozen people working on various projects, and a meeting is underway in the conference room. This is just one of the ways the Spokane Library is responding to the changing needs of patrons and providing services to the people of Spokane.

Since the original levy lid passed in 2013, Spokane libraries have seen an 89 percent increase in use of library computers and wi-fi, and a 41 percent increase in customers coming through the doors of the various branches. Just think what the library system could do to serve Spokane given another seven years of funding.

I urge everyone to vote “yes” on Spokane Measure No. 1, which renews the existing levy that helps fund Spokane Public Libraries for another seven years. The cost to homeowners is minimal ($7 per year on a house valued at $100,000) and the benefits to our city are widespread and immeasurable. Vote yes for Spokane libraries!
