Cheney High School has made Newsweek’s “Beating the Odds” list, ranking 299 out of 500 as one of the top high schools in the country for low-income students.

SPS inclusion plan lauded by feds
The U.S. Department of Education has recognized Spokane Public Schools as one of the first districts in the nation to commit to include students of all backgrounds in Advanced Placement courses.
As part of the national Lead Higher Initiative, which is led by the nonprofit Equal Opportunity Schools, SPS schools will be given data analysis to measure school- and student-specific causes of participation gaps. EOS will also help schools develop a plan that addresses those causes. By fall 2017, the initiative hopes to transition underrepresented students who will likely benefit from AP/IB courses into those classes.
