No joy in driving

My apologies to Ernest Thayer (“Casey at the Bat”):

Somewhere people are driving / straight where they want to go.

Somewhere without a crewman / waving a sign “Stop” or “Slow.”

Somewhere there’s happy drivers / who never honk or toot.

But there is no joy in Spokane, /It’s the year of the “alternate route.”
