Shame on ‘The Emperor’

Although I shudder at the sheer magnitude of revenue and expenditures of federal government, an estimated 2015 U.S. budget of $3.8 trillion), I am proud that I have always contributed part of my income through taxes to enjoy the liberty, health, welfare and protection our great country offers.

We have a candidate who boasts that he pays as little tax as possible through a variety of stratagems. Given his history, perhaps he has paid nothing to enjoy his liberty, health, welfare and, importantly, the protection provided by United States government. How can any person, especially military, support a bloviating blowhard whose braggadocio and business practices include stiffing contractors and employees by not paying his bills or his taxes, or declaring bankruptcy as acceptable behavior?

His behavior reminds me of the childhood story of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” During The emperor’s procession while wearing his “new clothes,” a little child observed, “But he has nothing on!” Embarrassed, for he knew it to be true, but unrepentant, the emperor said, “The procession must go on now.”

Shame on “The Emperor,” and on those who carry his baggage and support him.
