Meidl a morale booster
During recent years, as Spokane attempts to choose the best police chief for the force, how ludicrous it is to spend so much time and large sums of money and then have it all end in failure. Straub’s selection ended with accusations of abuse and a hefty $3 million lawsuit against Spokane. The selected chief from Federal Way (Anne Kirkpatrick) dropped the ball and left town.
So now we have Assistant Chief Craig Meidl with 22 years on the force. We know everything about him. He performed his job well or he wouldn’t still be on the force. So why not cut to the chase and always promote the assistant chief? If he doesn’t want the job, go to the next in line.
As a longtime Spokane resident, he isn’t likely to leave town and he knows Spokane and most officers better than any new recruit from out of state, and he would be a great morale booster for the department.
The current system is broken, costly and if you think repeating the same steps will have a different outcome, then you are sadly mistaken.
