Kailer Yamamoto sparks Chiefs to WHL road win over Blades
SASKATOON, Saskatchewan – Kailer Yamamoto scored a pair of goals – giving him 10 on the season – and the Spokane Chiefs breezed to a 6-2 victory over the Saskatoon Blades in Western Hockey League play on Wednesday.
Ethan McIndoe – with assists from Keanu Yamamoto and Curtis Miske – scored the only goal of the first period to stake the Chiefs to a 1-0 lead at the 10:43 mark.
McIndoe and Hayden Ostir notched assists on a goal by Trent Huitema just 3:07 into the second period to stretch the advantage to 2-0. Kailer Yamamoto’s first netter proved to be the game-winner at 9:51 in the second.
With the Chiefs enjoying a 3-1 lead, Kailer Yamamoto picked up his second goal just 42 seconds into the final period.
Riley McKay and Pavel Kousal added third-period netters to cap the scoring for Spokane (5-6-1, 12 points).
Gage Ramsay scored in the second period and Kolten Olynek added a third-period score for Saskatoon (6-6-1, 13 points).
Spokane went 1 for 2 on the power play and stopped all nine Saskatoon efforts with a man advantage.
Spokane goaltender Dawson Weatherill stopped 27 of 29 shots on goal to pick up the victory.
The Chiefs return to action on Friday at 5 p.m. when they travel to Prince Albert to take on the Raiders.
