Central Valley Hull twins give Stanford oral commitments

Central Valley twins Lacie and Lexie Hull have dreamed of playing basketball for Stanford University.

That dream will be fulfilled. The multitalented Hulls gave Stanford oral commitments during an unofficial weekend recruiting trip to the California campus.

The 6-foot-1 junior wings announced their commitments Sunday evening on Twitter.

They chose Stanford over Gonzaga, Washington, Washington State, Oregon and Arizona State. They took unofficial visits to each school.

“The opportunity to possibly win a national championship would be incredible, and I feel like at Stanford that’s a possibility,” Lacie said.

Said Lexie: “To be able to play under a coach (Tara VanDerveer) who could teach us so much and to play with other players that would push us to be the best we could be was too good to turn down.”

The Hulls carry 4.0 grade-point averages.

The Hulls have been on Stanford’s radar since their freshman year. Stanford coaches never watched them play at CV but saw several of their club games with the Spokane Stars.

The Hulls said Stanford offered scholarships this summer.

They wanted to make a decision before the high school season begins. Preseason practices start in four weeks with the season beginning in late November.

It’s not like Stanford is getting two for the price of one; it is getting two from recruiting one family.

The Hulls said Stanford received four commitments for their 2017 recruiting class last weekend. The Hulls are the first commitments for the 2018 class.

They are highly regarded among the best players for their age in the nation.

The Hulls tried out last May for the U-17 national team but didn’t make the cut.

“I’ve been doing (club) for 36 years and they’re the two best all-around players that I’ve ever coached,” Stars director Ron Adams said.

Adams cited a long list of the top players he’s had including Angie Bjorklund (University High/Tennessee), Briann January (Lewis and Clark/Arizona State/WNBA), Emily Westerberg (CV/ASU) and Aubrey Johnson (Post Falls/ASU).

“At the high school level they’re the two best because they have no weaknesses,” Adams added. “They work their tails off and they haven’t even come close to reaching their potential. They’re going to become awesome college players.”

The Hulls led CV to a 28-0 record and State 4A championship last year. Lexie averaged 18.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists while Lacie averaged 9.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

They gave Stanford their commitments Saturday night and flew home Sunday afternoon.

“When we got to the campus, the players, the coaches, everything felt like a perfect fit for us both academically and athletically,” Lacie said.

Said Lexie: “We had loved the school and what the school had been known for before we even went down there. Once we got on campus everything we knew and everything we thought we’d like about Stanford just got better.”

They’re looking forward to not having to deal with recruiting their final two years at CV.

“We were hoping to play our junior and senior years without any stress or worries,” Lexie said.
