Idaho should vote for Hillary

Your editorial page endorsement of Hillary Clinton for president reinforces what should be clear to all of us: Hillary’s election is all that can save us from election of the most uninformed, unstable and unfit president to ever occupy the Oval Office.

Most recently, Trump and his supporters claimed that he was “brilliant” when it was revealed he undoubtedly paid no federal income tax for the past 18 years. What does that make those of us who paid our taxes to support our schools, our troops and our veterans (whom Trump claims to support)?

It’s a sure bet that Washington voters will support Clinton with its electoral votes. But in Idaho, while not supporting Trump in the primaries or caucuses, some may tune in to his fear-mongering and race baiting. Idaho has not supported a Democratic president since Lyndon Johnson in 1964.

In that election, similar misinformation was spread that “the election may be rigged” and there were efforts to restrict voter turnout. Lyndon Johnson countered by exploiting Goldwater’s lack of experience and his dangerous instability. The result: Johnson won an overwhelming victory, winning 44 states, including Idaho.
