Washington State comes on strong late to beat Gaels in women’s basketball
Caila Hailey had 11 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double and Washington State pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Saint Mary’s 85-69 on Sunday in Pullman.
Louise Brown and Borislava Hristova scored 14 points each for the Cougars (2-0) while Alexys Swedlund added 11 points.
WSU led by six before shooting 53.3 percent in the fourth quarter while holding the Gaels (0-2) to 25 percent in the final period.
WSU turned 24 Gaels turnovers into 28 points.
Devyn Galland led Saint Mary’s with 18 points with Stella Beck adding 17.
