Forecast of rain set to spoil supermoon view

From staff reports

Rainy weather will make it unlikely that Inland Northwest residents will get a glimpse of Monday’s supermoon.

The moon will appear extra large because it will be at its closest to Earth in almost 69 years. And it won’t happen again for another 18 years.

But in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas, cloud cover is expected to spoil the view. The chance of rain Sunday night is 90 percent, and the rain is likely before 10 a.m., the National Weather Service said.

NASA says the closest approach the moon will make is 3:21 a.m., and the full moon will occur at 5:52 a.m.

Locally, the moon began to rise at 4:15 p.m. Sunday. It will set at 6:43 a.m. Monday.
