Head-on crash north of Spokane kills one, injures four

A fatal car crash shut down Highway 291, 5 miles north of Spokane, for several hours Saturday afternoon.

A Toyota RAV4 driven by Spokane resident Tymofiy Bilous, 19, was going south on Highway 291 when it crossed the centerline and hit a northbound Ford Expedition driven by Ritzville resident Andrew Lefevre, 62, head-on, according to the Washington State Patrol. Both cars were totaled.

Bilous and his passenger, 19-year-old Andriy Bilous, were taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center by MedStar helicopters.

A passenger in the Expedition, 53-year-old Suzanne L. Lefevre, died at the scene. A second passenger in the Expedition, 60-year-old Lindsey A. Lefevre, was injured and taken to Deaconess Hospital, along with the driver of the Expedition.

All five people were wearing their seat belts, the WSP said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
