WRIGHT, Joy Ellen Hazel
Joy Ellen Wright, 98, former resident of Burien, WA, passed away April 23, 2016, at Newport Commun- ity Hospital Long Term Care, Newport, WA.
She was born on May 17, 1917, in LaClede, ID, to Clifford H. and Caroline Jackins Hazel and was raised and educated in Spirit Lake, ID.
She married Kenneth Alma Wright in 1937 in Spirit Lake.
They were married for 49 years.
Joy was a homemaker for many years before working in housekeeping at Eastern Washington University.
She thoroughly enjoyed her job, especially during the summers when the Seattle Seahawks held their practices and resided at EWU.
She was one of the first Twelfth-Man Fans!

Joy and Ken moved to Spokane in 1941 with their then two-year old son, Bob (Pudge) and resided there for 48 years.
She was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Parish for over 45 years.
Her loving husband died in 1985.
In 1972 Joy was diagnosed with having diabetes.
She admirably handled this disease with intelligent tenacity for the rest of her life.
After suffering a stroke in 1989 that partially paralyzed her right side, she moved to the Seattle area to be closer to family.
She lived independently in the Seattle Archdiocesan Franciscan Apartments in Burien for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, and siblings: Cecilia Hazel Troyer, Robert Hazel, and William Hazel.
She is survived by her son Robert L. Wright and his wife Martha Kelly Wright; four grandchildren: Roberta Jorgensen, Kelly Wright, Jennifer Davidson, and Aimee Wright Chase; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Joy loved her family and many friends deeply and lived her life full of humor, determination, stubbornness and spunk like no other!
She will be missed by all those who were lucky enough to have had her in their lives.
The family extends their thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Newport Hospital Long Term Care for their loving and compassionate care.
