Idaho State Police end investigation into fatal shooting of Adams County rancher
The Idaho State Police have finished their investigation into the fatal shooting of a 62-year-old Adams County rancher by deputies in November.
Jack Yantis died after Adams County deputies Cody Roland and Brian S. Wood shot him Nov. 1. Witnesses, including members of Yantis’ family, indicated one of the rancher’s bulls had gotten loose on Highway 95 near Council, Idaho, and was struck by a car. Yantis was shot after raising a rifle to shoot his bull, according to the witnesses.
The ISP were called in to investigate and interviewed 40 witnesses, as well as reviewed forensic evidence at the scene, according to a news release. The Idaho Attorney General’s Office will review the investigation to determine if criminal charges will be filed against Roland and Wood.
The investigation was handed over without a recommendation about whether to file charges, according to the news release.
