Annual Kosher Dinner canceled

The 75th annual Kosher Dinner hosted by Temple Beth Shalom scheduled for March 13 has been canceled.

The decision comes after difficulties in obtaining fresh brisket, according to the organization’s Facebook page. The dinner, which also includes live entertainment, typically goes through 1,000 pounds of the meat.

The dinner is a community outreach event that usually brings in about 2,000, many of whom aren’t Jewish. The entire congregation comes together to organize the event and cook the food.

“It takes mobilizing a community,” said Rabbi Tamar Malino.

The congregation orders its brisket from New York and couldn’t get its usual supply this year, Malino said.

Other solutions, including postponing the dinner, were considered but canceling the dinner was the best option, Malino said. “We are all pretty disappointed,” she said.
