Liss fires gem, two local teams advance at State Legion tournaments

Cameron Liss delivered a masterful performance for the Spokane Bandits on the final day of pool play the American Legion State tournaments on Monday.

Liss tossed a seven-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts, and the Spokane Bandits beat the Vancouver Mavericks 11-1 in Yakima at the AAA tournament. Jermaine Ducham and John Sage added two hits each for the Bandits (1-2), who finished third in their pool and were eliminated.

Jacob Hliboki picked up three hits as Grays Harbor scored four runs in the seventh inning to edge the Spokane Northstars (1-2) 5-4 in Selah, knocking out the Northstars.

The Spokane Cannons (2-1) were also eliminated after a 4-2 loss to Centralia. Christian Peters had three hits for Centralia.

Jeremiah Smith threw a complete game and allowed five hits, and Mt. Spokane wrapped up pool play unbeaten with a 4-1 win over host Burlington at the AA tournament. Mt. Spokane will play the Lynden Lightning today in a semifinal game.

West Valley defeated Gonzaga Prep 6-3 behind Sammy Hitchcock’s two-hit complete game at Mt. Vernon, but Prep (2-1) still advanced to play the Mt. Vernon Riverdogs today.
