Indians score every whichway in eighth, pull away to punish Hawks with 11-2 victory
BOISE - After scattering crooked numbers in four of the first five innings, the Spokane Indians put an extreme slant on things in the eighth, dawning their walking shoes scoring seven runs on the way to a 11-2 Northwest League baseball victory over the Boise Hawks.
Spokane (17-17) drew five free passes, added four hits and benefited from a pair of errors and a wild pitch in the big inning, powering Luke Lanphere (2-3) to an easy victory and leaving the Indians on the tails of North Division-leading Tri-City with four games remaining in the first half of the season. At press time the Indians were half a game back with Tri-City trailing in its late game against Hillsboro.
Seth Spivey had three singles and drove in two runs for the Indians, who chased Boise starter Breiling Eusebio (0-3) with two outs in the fifth before punishing the Hawks’ sloppy play in the late innings.
Lanphere held the Hawks to two runs on six hits and three walks, striking out one over 5 1/3 innings.
