A new gastropub is coming to the South Hill.

Remedy is expected to open in early August at 3809 S. Grand Blvd. With a “retro industrial” interior and a rooftop patio, the restaurant will seat 86 people and feature a simple menu of burgers, wraps, salads and “fun items” such as clams, said co-owner Matt Goodwin.

There will also be craft cocktails and 22 taps featuring local beers.

Remedy is Goodwin’s sixth restaurant, behind the Backyard Public House, Volstead Act, the Boiler Room, Press and Fast Eddie’s. It’s a joint venture with Josh Hissong of HDG Architecture, a regular business partner.

The restaurant has been in the works for about a year and was expected to open as early as December, but the renovation only picked up within the last few months, Goodwin said. That’s being handled by the building owner, Jed Conklin.

One part of the building previously housed a dry cleaning store, and another housed the Hop Shop, a popular bar that closed in February. Goodwin has said his main interest in the Hop Shop property was the parking lot; without it, there would be only street parking for Remedy.

The Hop Shop space is being remodeled as a banquet room.

Goodwin said employees are being hired and will begin testing menu items within the next week or so. He said he doesn’t know what day Remedy will open.
