Newsmakers: Browns’ Isaiah Crowell pledges to Dallas police fund as apology

Announced Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell said Wednesday he will donate about $35,000 to a fallen officers fund in Dallas as part of his apology for posting a drawing on Instagram last week showing a police officer getting his throat slashed. Crowell, in a video posted on Facebook, apologized again for the post and said he would donate his first game check to a fund for the police officers slain and injured during a sniper attack last week.

Signed A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to terms with free agent forward Jordan Hill on a two-year deal worth $8 million.

The Memphis Grizzlies have signed forward James Ennis to a multiyear contract. Terms weren’t disclosed.

The New York Rangers agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward J.T. Miller on a $5.5 million, two-year deal. Agent Scott Bartlett confirmed the terms of the deal, which carries a $2.75 million cap hit. Miller will make a $2.5 million in salary with a $250,000 bonus next season and $2.75 million in 2017-18.

Extended Virginia Tech has extended the contract of men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams through the 2022-23 season.

George Mason has extended coach Dave Paulsen’s contract for another year through the 2020-21 season. Athletic director Brad Edwards said it a way to recognize Paulsen’s work of getting the men’s basketball program “back on firm footing” in his first season as the Patriots’ coach.

Honored NFL senior executive Joe Browne, who recently retired after 50 years in the league office, will receive the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Ralph Hay Pioneer Award during the induction ceremony Aug. 6. The honor is presented periodically to an individual who has made significant and innovative contributions to professional football.

Hired Longtime Washington Capitals general manager George McPhee has been hired as GM of the NHL’s expansion Las Vegas franchise. McPhee will be in charge of building the team from scratch to begin play in the 2017-18 NHL season.

Died Former Clemson point guard Demontez Stitt was found dead at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina on Tuesday night. Lead investigator Eric Wheeler in the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office said a cause of death is still pending.

Transfered Forward Chris Reyes will play at Pepperdine this season as a graduate transfer from Utah. The school said Reyes will pursue a master’s degree in learning technology. The 6-foot-7 forward has one year of eligibility remaining.
