Mosquitos are bad this year at Lake Roosevelt, park service says

It’s a bad year for mosquitos at Lake Roosevelt, and the National Park Service wants visitors to be prepared.

The mosquito population is “extraordinarily large,” especially near Kettle Falls, according to a news release.

The park service suggests visitors bring loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirts and pants, plus mosquito repellant. “Also, make sure screens to windows and doors on recreational vehicles and tents are in good working order,” the release said.

National Park Service policies don’t allow for spraying to control mosquitos unless they are found to carry diseases like West Nile Virus, it said. However, “park staff understands from personal experience the desire” to do so, the release added.
