Indians salvage series finale with AquaSox

EVERETT – Darius Day delivered a two-run single and Seth Spivey followed with a run-scoring double in a pivotal fifth inning to help the Spokane Indians avoid a three-game sweep with an 9-2 victory over the Everett AquaSox in Northwest League play on Monday night.

With the game tied at 2-all, Todd McDonald led off the fifth with a single and moved to third on a Travis Bolin double. Day stepped up and singled to left to give the Indians (11-14) a 4-2 lead. After a Blaine Prescott groundout, Spivey doubled to left to give Spokane a three-run cushion.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Day led off with a walk, moved to third on a stolen base and an error on the throw and scored on a sacrifice fly by Spivey.

Spokane made it 2-0 in the third when Bolin led off with a single, took second on a groundout and scored on a Prescott single.

Indians starter Jacob Shortslef aided a two-run rally by the AquaSox (13-12) in the bottom of the third by walking the first three batters. The runs scored on a wild pitch and a groundout.

Spokane upped its advantage to six runs by scoring twice in the seventh on a RBI single by Xavier Turner and a sac fly off the bat of Alex Kowalczyk.

Shortslef allowed two runs on three hits and three walks in five innings to earn the win. Spokane hosts Salem-Keizer next.
