Coeur d’Alene creates traffic plan for July 4 fireworks show
An Interstate 90 exchange for Coeur d’Alene will be closed Monday evening to prevent delays on the freeway as thousands of people leave town after the Fourth of July fireworks show. A downtown traffic plan will also be in effect.
The on- and off-ramps at the I-90/Northwest Boulevard Interchange will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. Monday. Motorists will need to use another interchange, which will help spread traffic flow throughout the community.
Coeur d’Alene’s downtown traffic plan will start about 8:45 p.m. Barricades, signs and flaggers will steer motorists leaving downtown either to the north or east. The ability to enter Northwest Boulevard from downtown will be blocked. Traffic will be routed toward Mullan, Front or Sherman avenues or north on First through Seventh streets, with the exception of Third Street.
“We want to ensure that residents and visitors can get to their planned destinations after fireworks as easily as possible, and we ask for patience while they leave the area,” said Deputy City Administrator Sam Taylor. “It will take some time to leave due to the many thousands of people who will attend.”
