The Dirt: Silverwood to renovate, upgrade RV park
Silverwood Theme Park plans to spend $600,000 to renovate its RV park, located across U.S. Highway 95 from its main attractions.
The upgrades this year will include improving utilities and providing more power hookups for RV and camping sites. Other projects will bring a new kids’ play feature, sprinklers for grassy spaces, fire pits at each site, a free Wi-Fi system and new picnic tables.
Silverwood’s RV Park opened in 1990. The facility has 125 RV spaces, 41 tent-only areas, a retail store, and restroom and laundry facilities.
The theme park has over 70 rides, slides, water features and other attractions across 221 acres along the highway just south of Athol.
Golf-simulation center opens in Valley mall
Scarlett’s Golf Experience opened in a 6,000-square-foot space on the second floor of Spokane Valley Mall as a golf-simulation center. It’s located near the west entrance.
Owner Roger Scarlett also has a similar shop with the same name in Coeur d’Alene’s Silver Lake Mall that opened in October 2014.
Both sites offer play on golf-simulation systems, each with three high-definition large screens and 87 courses. The cost is $40 an hour for a group of up to four people. Scarlett said the newer mall space opened with two systems, and the business is adding a third unit.
The business also manufactures the units to sell to golf courses, schools, individuals and similar golf-simulation centers, Scarlett said.

for Coeur d’Alene
A property along Northwest Boulevard in Coeur d’Alene is slated for construction of a 100-room hotel.
The proposal calls for a 56,000-square-foot Fairfield Inn & Suites, under the Marriott chain.
Property owner Ron Ayers received City Council approval Jan. 19 for a zone change from residential to commercial for about 1.28 acres. Under the plan, Ayers wants to combine it with an adjacent parcel where the Garden Motel is located to create a 4.5-acre future hotel site.
